Kathleen Luyk is conductor of Òran and Vacilando, and is executive director of the Kokopelli Choir Association. She is in demand as an adjudicator, guest conductor, and clinician.
Kathleen Luyk is in her sixteenth season with Edmonton's Kokopelli Choir Association, where she conducts the organization's two adult choirs, Òran and Vacilando. Kathleen (Katy) is also a proud alumna of Kokopelli.
Katy holds a B.Mus. (University of British Columbia, 2003), and an M.Mus. in Choral Conducting (University of Alberta, 2005). Katy was the assistant conductor of the U of A Madrigal Singers under the direction of Dr. Leonard Ratzlaff for two years. Since 2010, Katy has been the executive director for the Kokopelli Choir Association. As a conductor on the Alberta choral scene, Katy has been engaged as a clinician, guest conductor, vocal coach, and adjudicator for choirs and singers around Canada. Recent appearances include the Sun Peaks Cantando Festival in the spring of 2017 and leading Òran at Podium 2014. Katy is a past president of Choir Alberta, and sits on an advisory panel for Choral Canada.
As a conductor, Katy strives to pair a well-researched pedagogy of excellence with the notion that choral singing is an incredible force in building community.
Katy lives in Edmonton with her wonderful husband Sean, their two cats, and a very energetic labradoodle. Her non-choral hobbies include traveling, camping, reading, knitting, and spending time with her nieces and nephew.
